The Executive Committee, members and friends of the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce would like to extend our warmest congratulations to our Chamber’s Immediate Past President, Simon Chan AM, on his appointment on 12 June 2023 as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to multiculturalism, to the indigenous community, and to the arts.
We could not think of a more well-deserved recognition for Simon’s contribution, over many years, to our community, state, and nation.
Simon was the President of our Chamber from 2014 to 2021. He is also Director and Founder of Art Atrium, an art gallery exhibiting contemporary Australian, Asian and Aboriginal art with a special focus on cross cultural collaboration and expression in art. In addition, he is a practising architect and Director of SCA Architects.
Over the years, Simon has been involved in a broad range of not-for-profit Foundations and community organisations. He is the Chair of VisAsia Committee at Art Gallery of NSW, Director on the Board of the Australian National Maritime Museum Foundation, Council member of the Power Institute Foundation for Art and Visual Culture at The University of Sydney, Board member of Multicultural NSW Advisory Board, Director on the Board of Contemporary Asian Australian Performance, Director and former Chair on the Board of Aboriginal Benefits Foundation, President of Chinese Australian Forum, Committee Member of the NSW Government Chinese Garden of Friendship Advisory Committee and a Board member of the NSW Government Geographical Names Board. Simon was also the recipient of the inaugural NSW Premier’s Multicultural Award for Arts & Culture in 2013.
