Update on the The Dancing Girl and the Balloon Man

June 30, 2022

You might have noticed a small film crew around Dixon Street Chinatown earlier this month, without doubt on some of the coldest nights of the year!

We mentioned the project in our May newsletter and are very happy to share some updates from The Dancing Girl and The Balloon Man team after they successfully wrapped filming.

Writer/Director David Ma is now in the early stages of crafting the edit, with the aim of submitting to prestigious film festivals around the world by October – starting with the Berlinale, Clermont-Ferrand, and beyond.

The team would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the local businesses who supported the project especially Super Bowl Restaurant, Space Collection, Timezone Market City, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Harbour Plaza, as well as Yummy Dim Sim in Eastwood.

Motivation is high as another project from the team screened in competition at the recent 69th Sydney Film Festival’s Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films where it received Honourable Mention from the Jury: Yao Yao Goes To Little Bay is written and directed by Johnathan Lo who plays the lead role in The Dancing Girl and The Balloon Man.

Both of these projects are self-financed, and with limited opportunities for funding within the arts, the team extends an invitation for you to please get in touch with producer Georgia Noe <georgianoeobrien@gmail.com> if you are interested in supporting any of their projects.
