October 22, 2022

Neon Playground by Chinatown, a one-of-a-kind street festival aimed at reigniting Dixon Street and Chinatown with art, music, community and food was launched at Haymarket HQ by Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore on 15 October 2022

The festival, organised by Haymarket HQ in collaboration with Soul of Chinatown, Basalt Studio, the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce and Bespok3, was the recipient of a significant City of Sydney Precinct Activation Grant.

The launch by the Lord Mayor was followed by a free Block Party right in the middle of Dixon Street, inspired by sounds and steps from all across Asia, with a talented array of Asian-Australian musicians and performers.

Hundreds of revellers poured into Chinatown on opening night to admire the art installations and take advantage of the participating retailer deals and special events.

The festival has garnered media attention in the Sydney Morning Herald, Broadsheet, SBS and The Australian. Neon Playground’s social media channels have reached more than 150,000 people, with more than 1,000 followers on both Facebook and Instagram.

The event’s community partners include Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) Darling Square, Thai Kee Supermarket, Aura Financial Group, Market City Shopping Centre, Blue Sky Markets, Polaris Media, Neolite, The Artistry, and the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce.

For a limited time only until 20 November 2022, don’t miss Neon Playground’s captivating installations and the excitement that has come back to Sydney’s Chinatown.
