On 30 April 2025, Haymarket Chamber of Commerce and Chinese Australian Forum (CAF) co-hosted a Civics & Media Literacy workshop at the Sydney Central Hotel in Haymarket. This workshop was a community initiative by CAF and supported by the Australian Government’s National Foundation for Australia-China Relations.
This workshop was delivered by Professor Wanning Sun of University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and it covered the following topics:
1. How Australian democracy works.
2. How to participate in the democratic process as an active citizen.
3. How to verify news and identify any misinformation in the media.
Attendees found the workshop most informative and gave Prof. Sun a big thumbs-up for her excellent presentation. Our sincere thanks to Prof Sun.
We would also like to particularly thank Jim Paras and Julie Wilson of the Sydney Central Hotel for hosting us at their hotel. We are also most grateful to the President of CAF, Simon Chan AM and his committee colleagues for inviting the Chamber to co-host the workshop which has significantly benefited our members and guests who attended.
