Haymarket Chamber of Commerce held a most successful Federal Budget Panel Discussion and Networking Evening on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at the Novotel Sydney Darling Square in Haymarket, which was attended by more than 70 of our Chamber members and non-member guests.
This year’s 2026-2027 Budget delivered by Treasurer Jim Chalmers on 12 May 2026 was one of the most important budgets in the nation’s history as significant reforms to our tax system were announced including changes to the capital gains tax rules, negative gearing, and taxation of discretionary family trusts.
We are most grateful to our expert panel consisting of Simon Alford (Business Advisory and Tax Partner at BYRONS), Devika Shivadekar (Economist at RSM Australia), Raffi Tenenbaum (Tax Partner at William Buck) for their analyses and insights, and to our own Chamber president, Vincent Lim, who was the panel moderator. We would also like to thank all members of the audience for their participation during a most interesting Q&A session.
Our sincere thanks and gratitude also go to our event partners: Matt Hill and Praveen Rodrigo of Novotel Sydney Darling Square for their generous support in particular for the conference venue and food catering, and Tom Chang of Millon Wines for their award-winning wines.
Below are some photos taken at the event by our Chamber member and photographer, Valent Lau of Executive Images.
