On 11 August 2022, the City of Sydney celebrated the completion of the makeover of the heritage-listed Corporation Building, 181-187 Hay Street, Haymarket, at the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, which gallery is located within the building.
The ornate building was designed in 1892 by City Architect George McRae for Sydney Municipal Council and built as a service building to the new Belmore Markets.
Over the years, the building has housed a variety of retail businesses and undergone many alterations and repairs. The City has now returned this landmark building to its former glory.
The 4A Gallery is currently exhibiting No false Idols, curated by Con Gerakaris, until 2 October 2022.
