The Chamber held its annual Chinese New Year Banquet at the Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown on 11 February 2022 which was attended by 320 of our members, VIP guests, dignitaries and friends.
It was truly a wonderful annual reunion dinner for the Haymarket Chamber family and we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all of you for your continued support, and particularly to the Hon. Mark Coure MP (NSW Minister for Multiculturalism and Minister for Seniors), Jason Yat-sen Li representing the Hon. Chris Minns MP (NSW Leader of the Opposition), City of Sydney Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Scully, Alex Greenwich MP, Jenny Leong MP, Ku-ring-gai Deputy Lord Mayor Barbara Ward, and City of Sydney Councillors HY William Chan, Emelda Davis, Sylvie Ellsmore, Lyndon Gannon, Shaunna Jarrett, Robert Kok and Linda Scott for joining us to usher in the Year of the Tiger.
Apologies were received from the Hon. Alex Hawke MP (Federal Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs) who sent us his good wishes via a video recording instead, the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP (Federal Member for Sydney), the Hon. Linda Burney MP (Federal Member for Barton), the Hon Jonathan O’Dea MP (NSW Parliamentary Speaker and State Member for Davidson), City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and Mr Chin Tan, Race Discrimination Commissioner of the Australian Human Rights Commission.
One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement and presentation of the Chamber’s Honorary Membership Award to our Immediate Past President, Simon Chan, in recognition of Simon’s many years of meritorious service to the Chamber. Congratulations Simon!
We would also like to thank all our event sponsors and prize donors (Darling Square Community Bank, Millon Wines, Surfside Hotels, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Dynasty Karaoke, Macquarie Links International Golf Club, Chat Thai, Forcast and the Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant) for their generous contributions, the XO Music band for the wonderful entertainment, our sound technician Dave Shea, the Qing Fong lion dance troupe, and all our volunteers for their help in making the evening such an enjoyable one!
